As you begin preparing for the arrival of your little one, it is good to point out that some baby items may be eligible for FSA or HSA reimbursement. Baby Monitors are a great piece of technology to help keep an eye on your little one, and the good news is that there are several baby monitors eligible for both Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) reimbursement.

In addition, there are several other baby gear purchases you may be considering that could also be eligible for reimbursement with your FSA or HSA.

What baby monitors are eligible for FSA or HSA reimbursement?

In order to know if a baby monitor falls under a medical expense category, it must meet certain criteria. For example, if the baby monitor is used to alert parents or caregivers that their baby has stopped breathing or is experiencing other medical conditions/events, then it could potentially qualify as a medical device and be eligible for reimbursement

We love the assurance that the Owlet Sock gives us. This is especially useful for newborns and preemies.

Additionally, video monitors designed with parental monitoring capabilities can also be considered FSA or HSA eligible as long as they are used for the safety of the child; however, some devices may still not qualify due to product specifications.

Top baby monitors eligible for FSA or HSA reimbursement:

  1. Nanit Pro
    • Includes a swaddle wrap which monitors breathing.
  2. Eufy Smart Sock
    • The newest release, which includes a smart sock to monitor heart rate, sleep status, and movement.
  3. CuboAi Plus
    • Monitors temperature, face covering, and movements with mattress pad and AI technology.
  4. Owlet Dream Duo 2 Smart Sock & Cam

To make sure your purchase falls under a reimbursable category, check with your specific plan administrator or contact an FSA/HSA specialist at the provider who sells the item. When in doubt, read up on any potential guidelines and restrictions before buying!

What is FSA and HSA?

FSA and HSA eligible expenses are a great way to reduce your out-of-pocket health care costs. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) are tax-advantaged accounts that help individuals cover out-of-pocket medical expenses.

FSAs can be used to pay for eligible medical costs such as doctor visits, prescription medications, and even certain over-the-counter medicines.

HSAs offer a triple tax advantage in that contributions to the account are made on a pre-tax basis, earnings grow tax free, and distributions for qualified medical expenses are also exempt from taxation

HSA versus FSA differences

Both HSA and FSA accounts have their own sets of rules and eligible expenses for reimbursement, so be sure to consult with your employer or plan administrator for more information about specific items that may be eligible for reimbursement.

Other Baby Gear Items Eligible for FSA or HSA Reimbursement

In addition to baby monitors being eligible for FSA or HSA reimbursement, some common baby items may also be FSA or HSA eligible. Though each Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) has its own rules, the following baby gear items may be eligible as well:

  1. Breast Pump
  2. Orajel
  3. Thermometer
  4. Cream (A&D ointment is our favorite!)
  5. Humidifier

Before you make a purchase of any baby gear item for reimbursement through an FSA or HSA, it’s important to double-check the eligibility since not all items are considered valid under these healthcare accounts.

Remember: when in doubt, ask! That way you’ll be able to get reimbursed properly for all your baby gear purchases. Additionally, there are other items such as sunscreen and birth control are eligible for reimbursement.

With an HSA or FSA on your side, you’ll have a little bit more buying power when purchasing all the essentials of parenthood. Happy shopping!
